Context

Design an app that, by exploiting the functionality and potential of AI and IoT, can concretely make people's lives more efficient in 4 days.

Challenge

The goal was to design an app that empowers users to create custom garments and accessories using AI and IoT technologies. The challenge focused on addressing the needs of beginners in the world of handmade creations, providing tools to simplify the process of creating patterns, reducing reliance on traditional sewing methods, and promoting sustainability by encouraging the reuse of materials and reducing the impact of fast fashion.

Process

  • UX Research: We started with a deep dive into the habits and needs of users interested in handmade creations. Through interviews and surveys, we identified pain points such as the difficulty of creating patterns based on body shape and the need for guidance in the creative process.

  • Customer Journey & Personas: We defined user personas, focusing on beginners in sewing and those motivated by sustainability. The customer journey helped us map out the user experience, from the initial idea to the final product.


  • Prototyping: We created a high-fidelity prototype, simulating AR for body shape recognition and AI for pattern creation. The IoT integration enabled the smart sewing machine to adjust settings based on the fabric and design.

The app, WearDo, allows users to create custom garments by generating patterns tailored to their body shape using AI and AR. The smart sewing machine, connected via IoT, adjusts settings for optimal sewing. The app guides users step-by-step through the process, from inspiration to creating a unique piece of clothing. WearDo also promotes sustainability by encouraging users to repurpose old clothing or materials, addressing both environmental concerns and the need for personal expression.

Conclusion

WearDo stands out by combining innovative technologies like AI, AR, and IoT to create a seamless and empowering experience for users. It offers a unique solution to the challenges faced by beginners in the world of handmade fashion, fostering creativity, sustainability, and self-expression. The app not only helps users craft their own clothing but also connects them with a community of like-minded individuals, promoting a shift away from fast fashion and towards a more sustainable, personalized approach to fashion.
